IOC says its concerned about London Olympic venues
COPENHAGEN — The International Olympic Committee is concerned that organizers of the 2012 London Games have yet to finalize plans for all the sports venues.
The IOC’s chief coordinator for the London Games says Wednesday that organizers are making “encouraging progress” overall in their preparations.
But Denis Oswald also voiced concerns that venues have yet to be finalized for a few sports.
London is considering scrapping a temporary venue in Greenwich designed for badminton and rhythmic gymnastics. Those sports would move to a nearby permanent site, forcing boxing to find another venue.
London 2012 chief executive Paul Deighton says the issue will be resolved by the end of the year.
