JAMSHEDPUR - The 8th Tata Open Golf tournament will tee-off at the Beldih and Golmuri course here Wednesday with a Pro-Am event.

As in the previous years, the tournament carries a total prize purse of Rs.20 lakh and a keen contest is in store as Professional Golf Tour of India’s (PGTI) top professionals will compete in the 72-hole stroke play championship.

The line-up includes the likes of Mukesh Kumar, Shamim Khan, Harendra Gupta, Mohd. Siddikur Rahman, Feroz Ali Mollah and Vijay Kumar, to name a few.

Padamjit Sandhu, Director, PGTI, said: “Our sincere thanks to the Tata Group for their strong and continued support for professional golf in India. We look forward to playing the Tata Open 2009, and are confident that our partnership with the Tata Group will help develop the event over the years and nurture talent in the state.”

The unique factor that underlines Tata Open Golf is that it is staged at not one but two golf courses; Beldih and Golmuri. Both these courses are lush green, beautiful and well maintained, with the charming Dalma Hills in the background.

While the 70-year-old Beldih golf course flaunts long fairways, Golmuri is a smaller, greener boutique course disallowing golfers any room for error.
