New York- Meb Keflezighi, a marathon runner from the United States won the New York City Marathon 2009. People were excited as the title of the New York City Marathon has come to an American runner after several years. As stated in the records, before this, the American runners had last won the title of NYC Marathon in the year 1982. Keflezighi is a popular marathon runner and in the Athens Game [2004], he had ranked at the third position but was unable to get the team a successful position in Olympic Games scheduled in Beijing. Keflezighi had participated in several marathon races earlier but could not win the title before NYC Marathon 2009.
In the recent years, the Americans had lost many major marathon titles to people from the other countries, especially to the runners of Africa. They have struggled to perform in the Olympic Games and the win of Keflezighi is expected to boost up the spirit of the Americans. A marathon runner of Kenya, Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot ranked in the second position of the New York City Marathon 2009. He had taken few seconds more than Keflezighi and had completed the run in 2 hours 9 minutes and 56 seconds. It has been stated by the sources that Cheruiyot was defeated when only two miles were remaining to complete the run.
Meb Keflezighi has become a citizen of the United States in the year 1998. He was born in Eritrea but had migrated from the region and has spent years in San Diego. The runner was honored to get the title of the New York City Marathon.
