New Zealand yet to decide on Fletcher’s stint as coaching consultant: Greatbatch

JAIPUR - New Zealand coach Mark Greatbatch has said that the length of former England coach Duncan Fletcher’s stint with the Black Caps as a coaching consultant is yet to be finalized.

Fletcher will join the visiting New Zealand team in Jaipur for the second ODI against India on Wednesday, and will stay with the team for the remainder of the series.

Greatbatch said that it was too early to confirm whether Fletcher would continue for Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand and the 2011 World Cup.

“We’ll see how this couple of weeks goes and from there make a decision,” the New Zealand Herald quoted Greatbatch, as saying.

“Obviously he’s got a lot of experience. A couple of months ago we looked at what we were doing in certain areas and wondered if we could bring someone in. He’s got really good ideas on the game,” he added.

Earlier, New Zealand Cricket Chairman Chris Moller had said that Fletcher’s involvement stemmed from the board’s desire to have an independent eye cast over the Black Caps after the 4-0 ODI series loss in Bangladesh.

“We were keen as a board to invite someone in with the relevant expertise. Hopefully, Duncan can contribute for the games that he’s there,” Moller had said.

“He can also come in, have a look at things and talk to the coaches and players and give us a report back so when we come to do the review there’s that input to the process,” he added. (ANI)
