BHUJ - The 120 vehicles taking part in the Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm Rally arrived here on Tuesday after the flag-off from Ahmedabad to start the gruelling 107-km-long special stage that will be run through the night.
All the competitors negotiated the 280 km of transport run from Ahmedabad to Indraprastha village, the start of the special stage, about 30 km outside Bhuj.
The 3,500 km long rally that will culminate in New Delhi on Sunday is considered the most challenging of such events in India.
The Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm 2011 sees an interesting mix of gender and demographic profile of motoring enthusiasts. This year, seven women have entered the event, setting records in motorsport participation. The rally also has participation by teams from the Indian Air Force and Indian Army.
Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm is the only rally in the country to run a comprehensive interactive virtual rally car tracking facility. It will provide real-time tracking of competitors online, and a comparison page for all enthusiasts wanting to keep abreast of the rally on the web.
The Desert Storm is being organised in partnership with Northern Motorsport for the ninth year.
