JOHANNESBURG - South Africa will have an effective transportation system in place for next month’s FIFA Confederations Cup, said transport minister Sibusiso Ndebele.

The FIFA Confederations Cup, a dress rehearsal for the 2010 World Cup, will kick-off on June 14 and matches will be played in Johannesburg, Tshwane, Bloemfontein and Rustenburg.

Ndebele said the improved infrastructure development at airports, roads, railways, road traffic management would reduce traffic snarls and road crashes.

On the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, Ndebele said he had met BRT teams from Johannesburg, Tshwane, Cape Town and Nelson Mandela Bay as well as the taxi unions.
