Chambers wins 100m at Greek athletics meet

KALAMATA, Greece — British sprinter Dwain Chambers has clocked a season-best 10.06 seconds to win the 100 meters at the Papaflesia meet.

His time Saturday was the fastest of the year for a European and the ninth best in the world this season.

James Dasaolu of Britain was second in 10.25 and Philippe DeRosier of the United States was third in 10.31 at the meet in Kalamata, Greece.

Chambers also won the race last year, clocking 10.26.

Chambers tested positive for the designer steroid THG in 2003 and served a two-year suspension. He is banned from more than 50 events organized by the Euromeetings consortium, which bans former drug cheats from its meets.

He will compete in smaller meets as he tunes up for the world championships in August in Berlin.
