Accused Fla. steroid dealer faces federal charge

TAMPA, Fla. — Federal charges have been filed against a Florida man who authorities say boasted of selling steroids to professional athletes, including players on the Washington Nationals and Capitals.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tampa announced Monday that 35-year-old Richard Thomas of Lakeland faces a federal charge of possessing and selling anabolic steroids.

Polk County Sheriff’s investigators say they found thousands of anabolic steroid pills, injectable liquids and syringes at Thomas’ home when he was arrested, as well as several weapons.

Authorities say they have no evidence that he sold to professional athletes. The teams have denied the claims.

Thomas was transferred to federal custody Monday. Records did not list an attorney.
