Weeden has 5 TD passes for No. 22 Oklahoma State

LAFAYETTE, La. — Brandon Weeden threw five touchdowns passes, three of which ignited a second-half rally that boosted No. 22 Oklahoma State to a 54-28 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday night.

Weeden hit Michael Harrison for a 24-yard score and Hubert Anylam for a 22-yard touchdown in the first nine minutes of the third quarter as the Cowboys (5-0) scored 24 points in the third quarter to take the lead for good.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (2-3) had taken a 21-17 halftime lead on two touchdown passes by Chris Masson in the final 4:35, but Oklahoma State scored seven plays into the second half on Kendall Hunter’s 1-yard run. One play after the ensuing kickoff, Chris Dinkins intercepted a pass by Masson and Weeden hit Harrison five plays later for a 31-21 lead.

Dan Bailey had three of his four field goals in the second half and had two 52-yarders in the game.

Weeden was 29 of 47 for 351 yards and the five scores, while Justin Blackmon had a career-high 13 catches for 190 yards and two touchdowns and Kendall Hunter rushed for 126 yards and one TD for the Cowboys.

Masson was 33 of 55 for a career-high 313 yards.

Blackmon caught scoring passes of 11 and 37 yards, the second with 11:07 left in the second quarter that gave Oklahoma State a 17-7 lead. However, the Cajuns drove 61 yards in six plays late in the half and Masson threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to James Butler 4:35 before halftime.

An interception by Lionel Stokes two plays after the kickoff gave the Cajuns possession at the Cowboys 39, and Masson hit Aaron Spikes for a 7-yard score 22 seconds before halftime for Louisiana-Lafayette’s only lead.

Weeden’s 43-yard hookup with Blackmon set up Hunter’s 1-yard touchdown run early in the second half before his two quick touchdown strikes. Louisiana-Lafayette stayed within striking range on Daryl Surgent’s 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown after the second of those passes, but Bailey hit field goals on three straight Oklahoma State possessions to stretch the margin and Weeden hit Wilson Youman for a 1-yard score with 4:59 left for his fifth touchdown pass, tying a Cajun Field record.
