Mine That Bird works out ahead of Belmont
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird has worked out at Churchill Downs with jockey Calvin Borel back on board ahead of the Belmont Stakes.
Mine that Bird went a half mile in 50 seconds and came off the track Monday morning prancing and kicking.
Trainer Chip Woolley says his gelding knows the difference when Borel is on him and looks comfortable. Mine That Bird won the Kentucky Derby with Borel aboard last month.
Woolley says the 1-1/2 mile length of the Belmont suits his horse, which came in second in the Preakness to filly Rachel Alexandra. Borel rode Rachel Alexandra to victory at the Preakness.
The filly is skipping the Belmont, but also worked out Monday in Louisville, Ky. Borel would have ridden the horse if she had entered the Belmont.
