LONDON - Wayne Rooney has risked the wrath of Manchester United coach Alex Ferguson by demanding to be a central striker next season.

The England star is fed up playing wide left for Manchester United and said: “The position I play for my country is the one I like playing most.”

According to The Sun, Rooney’s demand is certain to irritate Fergie, who was also criticised for playing the wrong Champions League final tactics by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ahead of the World Cup qualifier in Kazakhstan tomorrow, Rooney, 23, added: “I haven’t played there for a while for United and it’s the manager’s choice. But I’ve always said my best position is up front.

“When you’re playing out on the left you have responsibilities to get back a bit more. Sometimes that takes away a bit of energy from your attacking.” (ANI)
