Ameya tops among seniors in national karting

COIMBATORE - The experienced Ameya Walavalkar of Team Mohite Racing won the title in the senior section with a bit of luck in the fifth JK Tyre Indian National Rotax Max Karting Championship here Sunday.

Pole sitter Vishnu Prasad, leading until the 16th lap, developed mechanical problems and lost pace to allow Walavaklar to forge ahead and win the race ahead of Chirag Malhotra of Team Red Rooster Racing. Prasad managed to come in third.

Kolhapurs Parth Ghorpade of Team Amaron Pro with Meco took the honours in the junior section, while Bangalores Raj Bharat of Team Meco Racing and Chennais Anand Vikash of Team Indus Karts finished second and third, respectively.

Earlier, the race had to be red flagged as the vehicle of one of the competitors, Abha Mankar (Pune) of Team Amaron Pro Racing with Meco, crashed in the second lap. The race was restarted and run as a 14 lapper.

Chennais 11-year old Tarun Reddy (Team Meco Racing) won the Micro Max class saw him recording his maiden win comfortably. Finishing in second place was Taruns team mate, also from Chennai, Surya Raghuraman. Another promising youngster from Kolhapur, Dhruv Mohite of Team Mohite Racing, finished in third place.

Juniors (14 laps) - 1. Parth Ghorpade 09:21:232; 2. Raj Bharat 09:24:476; 3. Vikash Anand 09:33:475

Micro Max (12 laps) - 1. Tarun Reddy 09:36:988; 2. Surya Raghuramam 09:38:801; 3. Dhruv Mohite 09:40:177.
