LONDON - Andrew Flintoff revived hopes of an Ashes comeback with his second successful workout at Old Trafford.

There had been some fears that Sundays workout, during which he bowled six overs in two sessions, might have brought a reaction that would delay his comeback before the Ashes.

But the all-rounder was in the middle, before the resumption of Lancashire’s match against Somerset, bowling and exercising for the best part of 40 minutes Tuesday, The Guardian reports

The all-rounder has missed close to six weeks of cricket, including the Test series and one-day series against the West Indies, since cutting short his Indian Premier League stint with Chennai Indians after the knee problem resurfaced.

He took part in a warm-up supervised by Lancashire physio David Roberts who broke the session into pods of around six balls with intervals for work on the knee.

Flintoff reckons he will be ready for the first Ashes Test starting in Cardiff July 8 and hopes to play possibly two championship matches for Lancashire before playing for the national team.

The first is likely to be the game against Hampshire in Liverpool in eight days.
