Decision on Coach K’s USA return expected in July
ORLANDO, Fla. — Mike Krzyzewski’s decision on his future as U.S. national team coach is expected to come next month.
USA Basketball spokesman Craig Miller says chairman Jerry Colangelo had a productive meeting with Krzyzewski this week, and they agreed a coaching decision will be made before the Americans’ minicamp for young players from July 22-25 in Las Vegas.
Colangelo previously said he expected to announce the coach in the fall. Krzyzewski, however, speaking Tuesday before Game 3 of the NBA finals, said he believed everything would be decided in mid-July.
Krzyzewski coached the U.S. national team the last three years, leading the Americans to the 2008 Olympic gold medal after a third-place finish in the 2006 world championships.
