LONDON - Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to use his 80 million pound bonus from Cristiano Ronaldo’s shift to Real Madrid to rope in some famous names in the premier league, like Liverpool striker Fernando Torres.

Though Sir Alex’s bid for the Spaniard has come as a shock to many, 40 million pound bid would be seriously considered by Man U’s rivals who have recently been faced with severe cash problems.

Liverpool, who had paid 20m pounds to bring Torres from Atletico Madrid, would like to keep him with the club, but a record transfer offer may give the Anfield boardroom serious food for thought, the Sunday Express reports.

Ferguson is also believed to have shown interest in Lyon’s French striker Karim Benzema, Barcelona’s Samuel Eto’o, Atletico Madrid’s Sergio Aguero, Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery and Valencia’s David Silva.

Meanwhile, a 20 million pound deal to take Wigan’s Antonio Valencia to Old Trafford will be finalised next week. (ANI)
