Ryan Leaf a no-show on Texas charges

DALLAS — Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf has not surrendered to authorities in West Texas to face burglary and drug-related charges.

Randall County District Attorney James Farren says Leaf hadn’t turned himself in by Thursday afternoon to face one count of burglary and eight drug-related counts associated with the painkiller Hydrocodone.

Farren says he doesn’t have a deadline for the former No. 2 draft pick from Washington State to turn himself in. The prosecutor in Canyon, Texas, says the appearance of a deadline came from Leaf’s attorney, who indicated Leaf had planned to surrender.

Leaf flopped as San Diego’s quarterback and was released in 2000 after three seasons. He was quarterbacks coach at West Texas A&M in Canyon, near Amarillo. He was arrested Wednesday in Washington state, near the Canadian border.
