Ovechkin voted most outstanding by NHL peer

LAS VEGAS — Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin has been picked as most outstanding by his fellow players for the second straight year.

Ovechkin, also the favorite to take home the Hart Trophy as most valuable player, picked up the Lester B. Pearson Award that is voted on by members of the NHL Players’ Association. Ovechkin led the NHL with 56 goals and was second with 110 points.

He edged fellow Russian players Evgeni Malkin of Pittsburgh and Detroit’s Pavel Datsyuk, the other two finalists for the Hart, to become the first repeat winner of the Pearson Award since Jaromir Jagr in 1999 and 2000.
