Nolan named VP hockey operations for AHL Rochester
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Ted Nolan is taking over as vice president of hockey operations for the Rochester Americans, the American Hockey League team for which he once played.
The former coach of the New York Islanders and Buffalo Sabres will be responsible for overseeing the rebuilding of a once-proud franchise that has gone an AHL-worst 53-89-18 over the past two seasons. Nolan was the captain of the Americans during his one season with the team in 1984-85.
It is the latest move for Nolan after he and the Islanders parted ways because of philosophical differences last summer. He was the NHL coach of the year with the Sabres in 1997, and had several successful stints coaching junior hockey in Canada.
