Murray beats Ferrero in straight sets to reach 1st Wimbledon semifinal

WIMBLEDON, England — Andy Murray has reached his first Wimbledon semifinal after overpowering Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain 7-5, 6-3, 6-2.

Murray won the last five games of the match Wednesday to wrap up the win in 1 hour, 41 minutes.

Murray became the first Briton since Tim Henman in 2002 to reach the Wimbledon semifinals. He is trying to become the first British man since Fred Perry in 1936 to win the grass-court Grand Slam.

Ferrero was the only wild card to reach the quarterfinals.
