Borzakovsky, Collins, win at rain-soaked meet

ZHUKOVSKY, Russia — Former Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky won the 800 meters in cold and rainy conditions at the Znamensky Brothers Memorial meet near Moscow on Sunday.

The Russian splashed to the line ahead of compatriot Yury Koldin and Kenya’s Reuben Bett to win in 1 minute, 46.48 seconds, a full four seconds slower than his personal best.

It was the third win in five days for Borzakovsky after victories in Oslo, Norway, and Moscow.

Kim Collins of Saint Kitts and Nevis won the men’s 100 in 10.27 seconds ahead of Matic Osovnikar of Slovenia (10.54) and Aleksandr Volkov of Russia (10.63).

Other winners included Momchil Karaliyev of Bulgaria in the triple jump (56 feet, 4½ inches) and Maria Abakumova of Russia in the javelin (211-0).
