Dumais leads preliminaries on springboards

ROME — Troy Dumais of the United States led the preliminaries of men’s 3-meter springboard diving at the world championships.

Dumais finished with 483.65 points Wednesday to edge out Canada’s Alexandre Despatie (483.55). China’s two divers, He Chong and Zhang Xinhua, were third and fourth.

The semifinals will be held later Wednesday, with the finals set for Thursday.
