Despatie leads semifinals on springboards

ROME — Canada’s Alexandre Despatie led the semifinals of the men’s 3-meter springboard at the world championships, while American Troy Dumais slipped to third after pacing the preliminaries.

Despatie finished with 485.05 points to beat out China’s He Chong at 483.30. Dumais was next at 471.50, followed by China’s other diver, Zhang Xinhua, with 471.00.

The top 12 advanced to Thursday’s final.
