LONDON - Manchester United chief executive David Gill has said the English champions’ future is more secured than Chelsea or Manchester City and it won’t dance at the whims of its owner.

United still have a debt of 699 million pounds after the takeover by the Glazer family, but they only spend money on transfers and wages with funds generated by the club’s revenue streams.

Gill said that City and Chelsea are bankrolled by Sheikh Mansour and Roman Abramovich, leaving them more vulnerable.

“We should not undersell our key assets. We have the history and heritage of Manchester United and 76,000 people in the stadium every week. I still think we are a major attraction. We’re not at the whim of someone pulling out and losing interest. That’s because we’re operating for the medium and long-term,” Gill was quoted as saying by The Mirror.

“You read about how Roman Abramovich is feeling, when he is up there or down there. And they say they have to bring in money before they do transfers. United has been around since 1878 and our job is to make sure it’s still around for many more years in a sensible fashion. That’s by generating our own income, whether it be through players or generating capital income to take it forward,” he added.
