Canada, Russia, Greece advance to semifinals of women’s water polo at worlds

Canada beats Hungary; Russia, Greece advance
ROME — Dominique Perreault scored three goals to lead Canada past Hungary 9-7 in the quarterfinals of women’s water polo at the world championships.
Emily Csikos and Christine Robinson added two goals apiece Monday for the Canadians, who advanced to face Russia in Wednesday’s semifinals. Russia defeated the Netherlands 9-7, getting two goals apiece from Natalia Ryzhova-Alenicheva, Evgenia Soboleva and Evgenia Ivanova.
Angeliki Gerolimou scored all four goals for Greece in a 4-3 over Australia. Kate Gynther did all the scoring for the losing Aussies. Greece will face either the United States or Spain, who played in the night’s final quarterfinal.
