Seattle runner injured in Copenhagen attack
SEATTLE — A Seattle runner suffered minor injuries when someone threw two small explosive devices onto the track at the World Outgames, a gay-friendly sporting event being held in Denmark.
The Seattle Frontrunners track team says on its Web site that a small piece of plastic struck one of its athletes, Dean Koga, and became embedded in his hand when the devices went off on Tuesday afternoon.
The team says he was treated at an emergency room.
The event’s organizers said in a news release Wednesday that police have arrested the assailant and boosted security. The statement characterized the explosives as Roman candle-style fireworks.
World Outgames director Uffe Elbaek said he’s saddened by the attack, but relieved that Koga is going to be OK.
