Cunningham scores 4 in FC Dallas’ 6-0 win
FRISCO, Texas — Jeff Cunningham had a career-high four goals to move into third place on the league’s all-time list and David Ferreira scored twice to lead FC Dallas to a 6-0 victory over the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday night.
Cunningham, who had his second MLS hat trick, has 112 goals to surpass former Dallas Burn star Jason Kreis for third on the league’s career list.
Goalkeeper Dario Sala returned to the lineup for FC Dallas (5-9-5) after missing 12 games with a knee injury and needed to make just one save for the shutout, an acrobatic diving stop on the Wizards’ Davy Arnaud in the 48th minute.
It was the second shutout of the year for Dallas, which snapped a two-game losing streak and won its third straight at home.
Kansas City (5-7-7) dropped to 0-2-2 in its past four matches, scoring one goal in that span.
Entering halftime with a 2-0 lead for the second consecutive game, FC Dallas was determined to avoid the collapse that led to a 4-2 loss in Salt Lake last weekend.
Cunningham scored in the 39th minute to give Dallas the early lead. Then, after Ferreira made it 2-0 three minutes later, Cunningham connected again on a penalty kick in the 66th minute. He also scored in the 75th minute and following Ferreira’s second of the night and fourth of the year in the 78th, closed out the scoring in the 89th minute.
Kansas City played the final 22 minutes of the match with just 10 men after Claudio Lopez was ejected with a red card for a retaliatory hit to the face of Dallas’ Dax McCarty just two minutes after Cunningham’s second goal made it 3-0.
