Late goal gives Revolution tie with Toronto

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Edgaras Jankauskas scored his first goal of the season in the 76th minute Saturday night to give the New England Revolution a 1-1 draw with Toronto FC.

Jankauskas, a 34-year-old Lithuanian striker, was added to the Revolution roster July 2 and was playing in just his third game. He beat Toronto defender Nick Garcia to a loose ball on the left wing, after a cross by Jay Heaps to Shalrie Joseph on right side. Joseph steered the ball back to the left, leaving Toronto goalie Stefan Frei out of position.

Dwayne DeRosario scored his eighth goal of the season in the 34th minute to give Toronto (7-7-6) the lead in a match played before a crowd of 12,014 at Gilette Stadium.

New England (6-5-6) extended its unbeaten streak to four (2-0-2).

DeRosario’s goal, the seventh of his career in 15 matches against New England, snapped a Revolution franchise record streak of 385 shutout minutes. DeRosario one-timed a shot from the right side after teammate Chad Barrett’s shot banged off Toronto’s Ali Gerba.

Toronto, which extended its winless streak to 0-1-2, played the final 40 minutes a man shy as Barrett was issued his second yellow card of the match for “reckless conduct,” making a hard tackle on New England’s Kevin Alston.
