Gade and Lin to meet at badminton worlds
HYDERABAD, India — Denmark’s Peter Gade and Lin Dan of China will meet in the quarterfinals of the badminton world championships after both won their third-round matches Thursday.
Gade, seeded third, had a 21-11, 21-12 win over Hong Kong’s Yan Kit Chan and has yet to drop a game in the tournament.
Fifth-seeded Lin — winner of Olympic gold in Beijing last year — beat Dicky Palyama 21-11, 21-11 to end the run of the Dutchman who upset China’s Bao Chunlai in the first round.
In other matches early in Thursday’s play, South Korea’s top-seeded mixed doubles pairing, Lee Yong-dae and Lee Hyo-jung, who also won gold in Beijing, reached the quarters with a 21-11, 21-17 victory over China’s Xu Chen and Zhao Yunlei.
All the favorites won through to the last eight in the mixed, with the teams seeded second through seventh all advanced.
