LONDON - Retired British boxing champion Chris Eubank has lost his famous lisp after spending 31,000 pounds on dental work, but has gained a comic whistle.

“Officially, the lisp has gone. However, I now have a whistle. I’ve jumped out of the frying pan into the fire,” The Sun quoted Eubank, as saying.

“I certainly wasn’t expecting it. Everyone thinks it’s hilarious. But, at least I prefer the whistle to the lisp,” he added.

Eubank had the massive makeover done at the Dublin surgery of top cosmetic dentist Barry Buckley, where he was fitted with 28 porcelain crowns and closed the gap, which was responsible for his speech impediment.

“As soon as the anesthetic wore off I was talking to the dentist and I could hear the whistling. It was funny - but not as funny as the lisp,” Eubank said.

The 43-year-old, who had held the WBO Middleweight and Super Middleweight titles, and retired from the ring in 1998, hopes that the whistle would gradually fade away as he gets used to his new mouth. (ANI)
