SURREY - Retired Australian all rounder Stuart Law has said that he would be a better option to save England’s Ashes campaign in the fifth and final test match to be played at The Oval next week.

Law said that instead of picking Mark Ramprakash or Robert Key, England should include him in the final eleven to strengthen their middle order.

“They are talking about everyone else. So, I’m putting my hand up as well, I’m available and ready to play for England next week,” The Daily Telegraph quoted Law, as saying.

“I couldn’t do any worse than some of them. I’m not even a year older than Ramprakash, so if he is a chance I must be a chance as well,” he added.

Law, who played one Test for Australia in 1995 and appeared in 54 one-day internationals, qualifies to play for England through residency as he has been living here since 2004.

Law further said that his age wasn’t an issue to be discussed at this point of time, and highlighted that he has been in terrific touch recently.

“Graham Gooch and Alec Stewart retired when they were in their 40s, so that just about puts me in my prime to play for England,” said Law.

“I know Geoff Miller (England chief selector) pretty well, and he knows I’ve been qualified to play for England for about two years now. I haven’t had the phone call yet, but maybe I will this time. I’m in awesome touch, I scored a terrific century for Lashings today,” he added. (ANI)
