PCA rejects Yuvraj Singh’s claims regarding discrimination in selection

CHANDIGARH - The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) has rejected middle-order batsman Yuvraj Singh’s claims regarding discrimination in selection procedure at the junior level.

PCA secretary, MP Pandove said Singh’s allegations were ‘ill-founded’ and claimed that the process of selection was ‘foolproof’ carried out on merit only.

“I think what he has said is ill-founded. Yuvraj is a product of junior cricket and has all along been associated with PCA. He has played so many matches at the junior level. Our selection system is totally foolproof. There is no discrimination at junior or senior level,” The Dawn quoted Pandove, as saying.

It may be recalled that Singh supported team mate Virender Sehwag in his mutiny against the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) over selection at junior level.

“Sehwag has raised a voice and everybody is with him. There were instances where I performed but was not picked. Such unfair practices hurt the careers of young cricketers and shatter their dreams,” Singh said on the sidelines of a promotional programme in Bangalore.

Sehwag had threatened to quit the Delhi Ranji team in protest against alleged nepotism and corruption in the DDCA’s selection committee.

Co-players Gautam Gambhir, Ishant Sharma and Ashish Nehra also stood with Sehwag in his revolt against the DDCA administrators. (ANI)
