Race options on for Rachel after Woodward
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The principal owner of Rachel Alexandra says all options are open for the sensational filly after her attempt to defeat older males in Saturday’s Woodward Stakes at Saratoga Race Course.
Jess Jackson said Tuesday during a conference call that his 3-year-old filly is ready for the challenge of becoming the first female of any age to win the Woodward, first run in 1954. A day after Rachel’s final workout before the race, Jackson also left open the possibility of a meeting with undefeated California-based 5-year-old mare Zenyatta in the Beldame Stakes at Belmont Park on Oct. 3.
He said if Zenyatta were sent to New York for the Beldame “we would give that race serious consideration.”
