Harrington, Els confirm for Singapore Open
SINGAPORE — Three-time major winners Padraig Harrington and Ernie Els have confirmed they will play in the Singapore Open in late October and skip the World Match Play Championship.
The $5 million event, which beginning this year will be co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the Asian Tour, will also include K.J. Choi and Darren Clarke, organizers said Wednesday.
Harrington and Els both played in the 2008 Singapore Open, missing birdies on the final hole to finish tied for second behind winner Jeev Milka Singh.
Organizers expect further big-name confirmations in the coming weeks for the 156-man field. Phil Mickelson played the event last year and Adam Scott is a two-time winner.
