Jeev leaves his President’s Cup hopes in Greg Norman’s hands

CRANS MONTANA - Jeev Milkha Singh wrapped up his campaign at the Omega European Masters with a disappointing three-over-par 74 Sunday, leaving his President’s Cup dream in the hands of International Team captain Greg Norman. Jeev finished in tied 49th place.

The reigning Asian Tour number one endured a tough back nine at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, coming home in 39 as he finished in the lower half of the leaderboard.

Compatriot Jyoti Randhawa signed off with a 70 in tied 32nd place while Shiv Kapur carded a 73 to end in tied 60th place at the Omega European Masters, which was being co-sanctioned for the first time by the Asian Tour and European Tour.

I was hanging in there. But it was a bad way to finish. The back nine got me again. I think the 12th hole (where he bogeyed today) is the one that has taken the toll on me. I was six over par on that hole this week. It happens but the game is good, said Jeev.

I was pushing it too much. I was one under and was trying to be too aggressive on the back nine and went the other way. The course can eat you up but that’s alright as I tried. My game is good and I feel comfortable with it.

Jeev was hoping to put in a strong showing in the Swiss Alps to boost his chances of a call-up from Norman, who will announce his two picks Tuesday. The Indian had finished 12th on the team rankings, two rungs outside automatic selection after missing several weeks of action to a rib injury.

Asked if he felt he had done enough to catch Norman’s eye this week, he said: I don’t know. I played well, I’m playing well. It’s the captain’s choice, whatever he wants to do.
