3 teens convicted of rioting at Davis Cup match
STOCKHOLM — A Swedish court has convicted three teenagers for rioting outside a Davis Cup tennis match between Israel and Sweden in March.
The Malmo district court on Thursday sentenced the three Swedish males, aged 17-19, to community service for juveniles. Two of them were also ordered to pay $19,020 for sabotaging a police vehicle.
The three were among 10 people arrested after protesting Israel’s offensive in Gaza. The court previously sentenced two others to nine and 15 months in prison.
The matches were played without spectators after Malmo officials said they could not guarantee security. The decision cost the Swedish tennis federation $5,000 in fines, and Malmo was banned from hosting Davis Cup matches for five years.
