Former NHL player Mike Danton granted full parole
KINGSTON, Ontario — Former NHL player Mike Danton has been granted full parole after pleading guilty five years ago in a failed murder-for-hire plot.
Friday’s decision followed a hearing before the National Parole Board.
Danton pleaded guilty in 2004 in the United States. Prosecutors said the plot targeted David Frost, the player’s former junior coach who became Danton’s mentor and agent. At the hearing, Danton said the intended target was his father, not Frost.
Danton, of Brampton, Ontario, was sentenced to 7½ years in prison in the U.S. He was transferred to a facility in the Kingston area in March, when he became eligible for full parole.
Danton spent parts of three seasons with the St. Louis Blues and New Jersey Devils.
