MILAN - Indian boxer Vijender Singh’s winning run in the World Championships came to an end with his 3-7 loss to Atoev Abbos of Uzbekistan in the semifinals. Vijender settled for the bronze, India’s maiden World Championship medal.

During Friday’s bout, Vijender was completely off colour right from the start and looked lethargic.

Vijender lead 1-0 at the end of the first round but Abos came back strongly and started dictating terms to open up a 5-1 lead by the end of the round.

Vijender did throw in a couple of punches but lacked the power. In the third round, Vijender started attacking and gained two points but the experienced Abos maintaned his calm to win 7-3.
