Fisher’s 4 points lead Senators over Habs
OTTAWA — Mike Fisher had a hat trick and Alex Kovalev had a goal and an assist in his first game against Montreal, leading the Ottawa Senators to a 6-1 preseason win over the Canadiens on Saturday night.
Fisher’s line combined for 11 points as Ottawa got its first win in four games (1-3). Peter Regin had a goal and two assists and Nick Foligno assisted on each of his linemates’ four goals.
Pascal Leclaire stopped 22 shots.
Jaroslav Spacek scored his first Montreal goal, a power-play tally 14:15 into the first period that tied it at 1.
Montreal’s Carey Price made 12 saves in two periods. Cedric Desjardins stopped five shots in the third.
Kovalev, who left Montreal to sign a two-year, $10 million contract with the Senators, opened the scoring with a short-handed goal at 7:57, beating Price with a shot between the pads.
Spacek beat Leclaire with a shot from the point through traffic to tie it at 1 before Fisher restored Ottawa’s one-goal lead with a power-play goal at 17:11.
Regin made it 3-1 just 58 seconds into the second when he finished off a 2-on-1 by putting Fisher’s pass into an open left side.
Kovalev got his second point with an assist on Fisher’s second of the game at 18:44.
Fisher beat Desjardins for his third goal 7:57 into the third, his second with the man advantage.
