Crew tie Fire
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. — Guillermo Barros Schelotto scored two second-half goals to help the Columbus Crew rally for a 2-2 tie against the Chicago Fire on Sunday.
Schelotto scored the tying goal with 11 minutes to play when he converted a penalty kick, called after Fire defender Wilman Conde fouled Crew forward Steven Lenhart.
Schelotto is third in MLS with 12 goals. The forward netted his first of the game in the 55th minute when he headed in a cross from midfielder Robbie Rogers. Schelotto has three goals and four assists in seven career games against the Fire.
The tie kept the Crew (11-4-10) alone atop the Eastern Conference, three points ahead of second-place Chicago (10-6-10).
Chicago built a two-goal halftime lead on a pair of scores by midfielder Peter Lowry, who has three goals in seven games.
The Fire lost Cuauhtemoc Blanco, who has five goals and a team-high eight assists, in the 63rd minute when he reached for his left leg and limped off the field with an apparent injury.
