Sabres score two goals 11 seconds apart, beat Caps

WASHINGTON — Drew Stafford and Patrick Kaleta scored 11 seconds apart to lift the Buffalo Sabres to a 2-1 victory over the Washington Capitals on Monday night in a preseason game.

Alex Ovechkin made his exhibition debut and was scoreless as Keith Aucoin scored the only goal for Washington midway through the second period.

The Capitals started goalie Jose Theodore, who made 19 saves. The last time he played was in Washington’s playoff loss to Pittsburgh that knocked the Capitals out of the postseason.

Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau had benched the goalie until that final game of the playoffs when he gave up four goals to the Rangers in Washington’s first game of the postseason.

Boudreau has said that Theodore will be the team’s No. 1 goalie this season.
