Hurricanes beat Thrashers for first preseason win
RALEIGH, N.C. — Joe Corvo scored on a 5-on-3 power play with 11:52 remaining, snapping a tie to help the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Atlanta Thrashers 4-3 on Friday night for their first win in three exhibition games.
Scott Walker, Eric Staal and Ray Whitney also scored for the Hurricanes, who led 2-0 midway through the game. Staal and Whitney had two assists apiece.
Tim Stapleton, Maxim Afingoenov and Michael Vernace scored for Atlanta, with Afingoenov’s power-play tally tying the game in the third period.
