World squash: Nandrajog wins it for India

ODENSE - Gaurav Nandrajog once again won the deciding match in straight games against hosts Denmark here to take India to the 17th position play-off match against Hong Kong in the World Men’s Team Squash championship.

The first match between India and Denmark Thursday witnessed heroics from Ritwik Bhattacharya. After being two games down, he showed grit and determination to defeat the Danish top seed Rusmus Nielsen.

Bhattacharya lost the first game easily and was unable to capitalise on his 10-6 lead in the second. But the Indian then stepped up his level keeping his opponent behind him and volleyed with excellent consistency to notch a 4-11, 10-12, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8 win in 52 minutes.

In the second tie, Harinderpal Singh was not able to raise the level of his game and committed too many tactical errors against Kristian Frost who won 12-10, 11-9, 11-2 in 45 minutes.

In the deciding tie, Nandrajog played accurate drives and drops against his 6ft 4in opponent Kim Povlsen to win his match and the tie for India 12-10, 11-3, 11-6 in 30 minutes.
