NEW DELHI - Thailands star golfer Thaworn Wiratchant will be hunting for a record-equalling 12th Asian Tour title when he tees off at the lucrative Hero Honda Indian Open starting here Thursday.

The Thai veteran will relish a return to the prestigious championship which he won in 2005 enroute to the Asian Tour Order of Merit crown during the same season.

With the tournaments prize money increasing to a record $1.25 million this year, a top-class field will assemble at the DLF Golf and Country Club, which is hosting the Indian Open for the first time.

Thaworn can expect strong challenges from Indias Gaganjeet Bhullar, Australian Darren Beck, Koreas teen sensation Noh Seung-yul, Filipino Angelo Que and Singapores Lam Chih Bing.

Former Asian Tour No.1 Arjun Atwal of India, US PGA Tour star Daniel Chopra of Sweden and Major champion Michael Campbell of New Zealand will also chase for honours this week.

After starting his year on a sluggish note, Thaworn has since hit a purple patch. He finished tied 11th at the Omega European Masters in Swtizerland last month before going on to win the Macau Open, which left him one short of tying compatriot Thongchai Jaidees record of 12 titles.
