Suarez Navarro reaches quarters in Austria

LINZ, Austria — Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain defeated Olga Govortsova of Belarus 6-3, 6-4 Wednesday to reach her sixth quarterfinal of the season at the Generali Ladies.

The 34th-ranked Suarez Navarro dropped serve early in the opening set but saved three more break points.

Suarez Navarro will play Petra Kvitova, who upset fifth-seeded Iveta Benesova of Czech Republic 6-4, 7-5.

In first-round play, second-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland defeated Monica Niculescu of Romania 6-4, 6-2.

Radwanska will play Alize Cornet of France, who rallied to stop Kristina Barrois of Germany 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
