Bernotas gets waiver out of US sliding trials

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — Eric Bernotas has received a medical waiver from the remainder of the U.S. skeleton national team trials because of an injured right quadriceps.

Bernotas led the men’s competition after Wednesday’s two runs, despite the leg pain. He will be part of the four-man contingent headed to Whistler, B.C., this month for official training on the Olympic track.

Barring another physical setback, Bernotas is expect to be on the World Cup roster.

He is the second 2006 Olympian excused from the trials. Katie Uhlaender is sidelined with an injured left knee.

The trials are the qualifier for U.S. spots on the World Cup circuit, which is the easiest path to the Olympic team.
