China National Games expels shooter for doping
BEIJING — Pistol shooter Li Jie has been expelled from China’s National Games after failing a doping test.
Games official Sun Yuanfu told reporters on Thursday that Li’s urine tested positive for propranolol, a banned betablocker that reduces trembling.
Li, representing Inner Mongolia, was stripped of her fourth place result in the 10-meter air pistol.
The expulsion came days after Henan province rower Guo Linna was ejected after testing positive for steroids. Henan then pulled all of its rowing teams out of the competition.
China’s national teams have taken a zero-tolerance stance on doping, but enforcement is believed to be more lax at the provincial level.
