Dynamo tumbles out of CONCACAF Champions League
SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador — El Salvador’s Metapan prevented the Houston Dynamo from earning a spot in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League with a 3-2 victory over the MLS club Wednesday.
Metapan had lost all five previous group games, but Emerson Umana’s goal in the 55th minute lifted the hosts to the surprise win.
A victory for Houston would have put it into the last eight, but instead that spot went to Panama’s Arabe Unido, which lost 2-0 against Group A leaders Pachuca of Mexico.
Elias Montes gave Metapan a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute and Anel Canales made it 2-0 a few minutes later. Houston closed within 2-1 in the 28th on a score by Geof Cameron and equalized when Dominic Oduro scored in first-half stoppage time.
