USOC turns to Paul Tagliabue for solutions
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue will chair a committee to determine if changes are needed in the way the U.S. Olympic Committee board operates.
The USOC announced Thursday that it was turning to Tagliabue to lead an effort to assess the size, structure and operating practices of the board, which has been under scrutiny for the past year.
The board forced out CEO Jim Scherr last March and replaced him with Stephanie Streeter, a surprising move that is widely viewed as the start of a downward slide for the federation.
That slide culminated last month when Chicago was embarrassed by its first-round ouster from the voting to award the 2016 Olympics. Rio de Janeiro won the bid to host.
