Former Jaguar gets probation for drug possession
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Former Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Jimmy Smith will serve 18 months of probation after pleading guilty to drug possession charges.
The former star said Wednesday after the hearing it was the next step in getting his life back together.
The charge stemmed from an April traffic stop in which Smith was found driving without a license and carrying cocaine and marijuana.
In July, he also pleaded no contest to further, unrelated charges of drug possession and drunken driving. He was placed then on probation for a year and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service.
The 40-year-old Smith entered a voluntary drug rehabilitation program after the April arrest.
