Tigers minor league 3B Ron Bourquin suspended
NEW YORK — A minor leaguer in the Detroit Tigers’ organization has been suspended for 50 games after testing positive for an amphetamine under baseball’s minor league drug program.
Double-A third baseman Ron Bourquin was penalized Thursday. He will serve the suspension at the start of next season.
Bourquin hit .283 with three home runs and 58 RBIs in 81 games last season for the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Class A Midwest League. He hit .228 with five homers and 19 RBIs in 37 games with Double-A Erie.
There have been 76 suspensions this year under the minor league program and four under the major league plan.
